Furniture sourcing in China, from Foshan

Foshan is home to a large share of China's furniture production. We select the factories there, check production and load your containers for Europe and beyond.

What we source

  • Living room and bedroom furniture: sofas, beds, storage.
  • Tables and chairs for homes, cafés, hotels and restaurants.
  • Office furniture and ergonomic seating.
  • Outdoor furniture: aluminium, woven resin, wood.
  • Lighting and decor: mirrors, ceramics, home textiles.

Why Foshan

In Foshan's Shunde district, the Lecong market stretches for kilometres of showrooms, and Longjiang gathers suppliers of materials and upholstered seating. Dongguan and Shenzhen are less than two hours away, and the ports of Guangzhou and Shenzhen are close by.

A showroom is not a factory: many Lecong exhibitors are resellers. Our job is to trace the actual manufacturer, visit the workshop and check it can produce your model, at your volume and to your finish standard.

What we check before loading

CheckpointWhy it matters
Moisture content of solid woodPoorly dried wood cracks or warps once in Europe
Foam density and resilienceSeats that sag within months lead to returns
Finishes and coloursDeviation from the approved sample is the first source of disputes
Stability and strengthLoad and tip-over tests on the sample
Hardware and assembly instructionsOne missing part makes a piece unsellable
Packaging and drop testFurniture travels badly: packaging makes the difference

Shipping: filling a 40ft High Cube

Furniture is bulky and relatively light: a 40ft High Cube is often the best choice. Production from several factories can be grouped after consolidation in a Guangdong warehouse. For a first test order, LCL is still possible. Assembled versus flat-pack changes the CBM a lot: use our CBM calculator to compare. Solid wood packaging and pallets must be treated to the ISPM 15 standard.

Rules to plan for in Europe

  • Producer responsibility: several EU countries run EPR schemes for furniture. In France, placing furniture on the market requires joining a compliance scheme (Ecomaison for household furniture, Valdelia for professional furniture) and a unique ID number.
  • Formaldehyde: REACH regulates formaldehyde emissions from furniture and wood-based articles.
  • Public venues: hotels and restaurants impose fire-reaction requirements on certain seating and textiles.
  • Product standards: EN standards exist by product family, for example for office chairs.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Goods are grouped in a Guangdong consolidation warehouse, checked, then loaded together.

Often 30 to 45 days of production depending on the model, then 30 to 45 days of sea transit to Europe depending on route and port.

Yes: changes to dimensions, materials and finishes, with your logo and branded packaging.
