That's the first thing we check. Some models need an individual approval process, others already have European type-approval depending on the manufacturer. We don't start any purchase before confirming feasibility.
Yes, with one thing to watch: the EU applies additional duties specific to certain electric-vehicle manufacturers based in China, on top of the standard customs duty. We factor these into your feasibility check, manufacturer by manufacturer, for a realistic budget from the start. As a guide, a new electric car made in China pays 10% import duty, plus 17% for BYD, 18.8% for the Geely group (including Zeekr), 20.7% for other manufacturers that cooperated with the EU investigation and 35.3% for SAIC (MG) and non-cooperating producers, in force since October 2024 for five years. Import VAT is then charged on the total. Applicable duties are checked case by case before any commercial commitment.
Expect around 4 to 6 weeks of sea transit (RoRo or container) between China and Europe, plus customs clearance and homologation steps. The exact timeline depends on your port of arrival and how complex the file is.
It's possible, but the rules differ from a new vehicle (age, mileage, emissions standards applicable at first registration). We review each file individually before committing to work with you. The EU countervailing duty targets new electric vehicles; for a used vehicle, duties and taxes are checked case by case.
For plug-in hybrids, customs and tax treatment is checked case by case, depending on the vehicle, its origin, its customs classification and the trade measures applicable at the time of import.
The UAE charges 5% customs duty on the value including freight and insurance, then 5% VAT. There is no countervailing duty on Chinese vehicles.
